Rootworks
Nursery School & Children's Garden
Our mission
At Rootworks, our goal is to create an inclusive, responsive, and thoughtful learning environment for children. The curriculum is rooted in care for our community, the nurturing of compassion and autonomy, and the joy of exploration.
An inquiry-based curriculum
Adaptable to each group of children, the emergent curriculum follows children's interests, cultivating a sense of curiosity and wonder for the world and a lifelong excitement for learning.
A mixed age, home-based family childcare environment
Rootworks is a home-based program, with children ranging from 18 months to five years old. The teacher to child ratio is 1:4, allowing for individualized instruction and attention.
The children's garden
At Rootworks, nature is centered in our learning. Both the outdoor and indoor spaces are designed to facilitate open ended physical, sensory, and imaginative play. We also regularly immerse ourselves in nature at the local arroyo. Time spent working and playing outside supports physical and mental health, resiliency, focus, independence, and connection.
Joyful, play-based learning
Children at Rootworks explore and investigate the natural world.
They develop confidence in themselves and a deep joy in learning, through play that incorporates developmentally-appropriate tasks.
