Art and music

Visual arts

Art is a tool for exploration, investigation, communication, expression, and open-ended creation.

At Rootworks, children have open access to high-quality materials such as watercolors, clay, and pastels. They are given the opportunity to form a relationship with these mediums over time.

Using the cognitive approach, we focus on the process rather than the product, working to engage children's creativity, critical thinking, and reflection skills throughout.

Music and movement

Song is an integral part of the daily rhythm at Rootworks.

It is through simple songs we know it is time to transition to a different part of the day, to come together, and to part ways.

Children have access to real instruments and styles of music from around the world. Dance and gross motor movement are highly encouraged.
