A 'yes' space

Rootworks has been designed very intentionally to promote the development of independence, responsibility, and autonomy in young children. The whole space is accessible to young children -- step stools, child sized furniture, and child sized tools abound. Children are supported in meeting the expectation of maintaining an orderly and beautiful environment -- they learn to hang up their coats, sweep up their crumbs, and return toys and tools to their place.

The indoor environment also provides ample opportunity for collaboration as children of mixed age groups problem solve, build, and create. Open ended materials are in abundance, ranging from play silks that catch the sunlight to wooden unit blocks to the smoothest river stones. High quality art supplies are always available on demand. Puzzles and games at just the right level to challenge enrolled children's ability levels are set out intentionally on shelves throughout the space. Rotating provocations invite children to play, experiment, and expand on their ideas.
